![]() ![]() ![]() I've given the basic idea of sub-orbital rendezvous/refueling some thought actually, ("thought" as in not a study of hard numbers just some of the basic issues be aware ) and it boils down to how to rendezvous quickly and safely enough and what kind of rendezvous and transfer mechanism would you use?ฤก) Rendezvous speed is around Mach-10 on a high but suborbital trajectory to give as much time as possible. ![]() I've suggested a good "test-case" (about the level of a high-school/collage effort ) would be to use one of those 'indoor-skydiving' places and two drones who's sole purpose is to "dock" in less than 15 seconds and expand the envelope from there REL has built and tested the HE technology, nobody really wants to "test" sub-orbital rendezvous given the inherent "hazards" involved. In the scheme of things sub-orbital rendezvous MAY in fact be the 'harder' of the two given what we currently know. Which is why REL is going to test the set up The main point of interest being where they fire up an afterburning jet engine down the throat of the heat exchanger to "simulate" Mach-5 airflow heating
